Day 24: Reviewing and Updating

Objectives
Students will be able to
review the process they should follow to find and evaluate academic sources.

I.  What have you learned since I had to leave? (20 min)

Show me what you have done the last seven classes.
Get in groups of three, brainstorm ideas about the topic you've been assigned, check Eunice's class website, your notes, Dropbox, etc. to remind you of all these topics. Be prepared to present a brief summary of your findings:

Group 1 : Pre-research Portfolio
Group 2:  Pre-research Process (topic, organization)
Group 3:  Paper's introduction and thesis statement
Group 4:  Outlining
Group 5:  Finding sources

Strategies to find academic sources:
1)  look only at titles/abstracts/subject terms
2)  scan literature review
3)  scan reference lists
4)  skim conclusions/limitations
5)  use Ctrl+F to look for keywords

III.  Results from Mid term-evaluation

Homework  
a. Refine your search for sources for the IRP. You should have 6 potential sources by next class.
b. Start evaluating these sources using the Source and Evaluation Chart. Fill out the chart as you read the sources. This IRP Evaluation Chart is due Sunday, March 25th (Dropbox).
